Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an imaging test which uses strong magnets to create images of the body organs and detect disease.
MRI is the top imaging modality for imaging of the structure of the brain, nerves and soft tissues. It is also the modality of choice for imaging local extend of tumors especially of the cervix and rectum.
The MRI suite at Precise Diagnostic Imaging is state of art with new 1.5T MRI machine with software for reduction of noise and fast imaging.

What you need to know about MRI scans:
- Most MRI exams typically lasts 20 – 40 min. Some exams may take longer depending on the number of exams being done and the nature of disease being investigated.
- Patients are required to stay still during the procedure. Sedation is needed for children and patients who are unable to stay still.
- Due to the strong magnets, patients with pacemakers, metallic implants and metallic shrapnel are not allowed in the MRI suite
- A contrast dye may be injected during the MRI procedure to demonstrate the various organs and disease conditions better.
- A check list is provided for every patient before every exam to ensure patient safety in the MRI suite.
Other types of MRI Scans
MRI Angiography
MRI Angiography is a special type of imaging where vascular structures can be demonstrated without injection of a dye. This can be used in the brain, body and the extremities.

MRCP
In Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), the MRI machine creates images of the bile ducts without the use of a dye to demonstrate anatomy and disease states such as gallstones and tumors.
